Abstract:The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland are two classic children’s books. They bear quite a lot of similarities. Both The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland are fantasy adventurous fictions. The main characters came to the wonderland accidentally. The wonderlands in the stories are unreal and fictitious. The whole stories are describing their adventures in that wonderland.
Besides, these two novels also have great differences. The narrative structures of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland are different. The main characters of two stories, Dorothy and Alice, together with other key characters are quite different. In addition, the main settings of two fictions are both fictitious wonderlands but with different features. The main setting of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the Land of Oz, which is an uncivilized and colorful country. The main setting of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is Alice’s dreamland, which is ridiculous and satire to the real world.
The comparison and analysis of the two fictions give us some revelation of children’s literature.

These two fictions are both very distinctive in narrative structure, creative images and rhetorical devices of their language. At last, let’s see why they are so successful and popular in their country and period.
The fiction The Wonderful Wizard of Oz wanted to teach us what we need during our growing up. They are thoughts, heart and courage. They are what people in American needed at the turn of the 19th century. This fiction is so successful because it was written for the children. The language is not difficult in the fiction. And children can see another wonderland which is colorful and happy. Children then couldn’t get too much love from their family or the happiness that they could enjoy in the real world. They read the book, and followed the adventures of Dorothy, enjoyed the happiness of success in her journey, and learned to be thoughtful, kind-hearted and courage in the fiction themselves.
