Abstract:With the increasing of international exchanges and the speed up of the reform and opening up in our nation, intercultural communication has become the key feature of this new era. Such tendency considered, the Chinese Education Committee has set definite requirements of cultivating senior high school students’ intercultural awareness and intercultural communicative competence to ensure that they can use language appropriately in The English Curriculum Standards (2003). Therefore, how to cultivate senior high students’ intercultural awareness and essential communicative competence efficiently and effectively in English instruction should be paid more attention.
This paper, considering the concepts and objectives in The English Curriculum Standards (2003) as the starting point, has tested the current communicative competence of students in grade two of five schools in Nanjing, and tried to find out some major problems in cultivating learners’ intercultural communicative competence which is based on intercultural awareness and to put forward some constructive pedagogic implications about arousing their intercultural awareness so as to improve their intercultural communicative competence effectively and efficiently. Through this research we find that 1) students’ present range of intercultural knowledge is not satisfactory in the overall situation; 2) they have awareness of the lack of such culture knowledge and intercultural communicative competence but systematical teaching and learning are inadequate both in and out of English class in senior high schools. Based on these theoretical findings and such empirical problems in this research, this paper proposes some constructive strategies for cultivating and improving learners’ intercultural communicative competence based on intercultural awareness from the textbooks’, teacher’s and student’s perspectives.
Therefore, it is of great importance and realistic meaning for this thesis to study methods of cultivating students’ intercultural awareness to improve their communicative competence in senior high school, and to develop learners’ necessary competence of expressing and communicating and their comprehensive language competence.

摘要:随着国际交流的日益频繁以及我国改革开放步伐的加快,跨文化交际成为我们这个时代的特征。基于此趋势,教育部于2003年颁布的《全日制义务教育普通高中英语课程标准》明确提出了培养学生跨文化交际意识,以保证适当运用语言的要求。因此如何在高中英语课内外教学中有效地培养学生跨文化意识及基本的英语交际能力值得关注。
本研究以《英语课程标准》(2003)的高中英语教学内容与目的为出发点,调查南京地区五所高中二年级学生跨文化交际能力的实际情况,探索目前高中英语教学中基于跨文化意识的交际能力培养中出现的问题,并提出一点建设性的教学建议以唤起学生跨文化意识从而有效地提高其交际能力。研究发现:1)高中生跨文化交际能力普遍较低;2)尽管学生意识到文化知识与交际能力的不足,但跨文化交际在英语课内外都缺乏系统的教与学。本文从教材、教师和学生的三从视角提出了培养和提高高中学生基于跨文化意识的交际能力的对策。
本研究对高中教师如何培养学生跨文化意识从而提高英语交际能力有一定的价值与现实意义,并对提高高中生的英语语言表达能力与交际能力、英语综合能力均具有重要的现实意义。
