ABSTRACT:Family Education is the education that achieved by the impact of parents on their children in the process of their children’s growth and development. In the dictionary, the definition of family education explained in this way: Parents or elder generation educate the child or teenage in family. Because of different historical backgrounds, economic situations, social conditions and the influence of traditional culture, there are great differences in the concepts of education, aim of education, methods of education and contents of education between American family education and Chinese family education. This thesis aims to summarize the traditional characteristics of family education culture and the differences between Chinese and American families, and then analyze the reasons of these differences between the two kinds of family education. Also, the author will explore “tiger mother” Amy Chua’s education method, then use it as the object of the study to explore how can Amy Chua’s education mode be successful in American’s society. The author hopes it can provide useful reference to the reform of family education in China and the United States.

摘要:家庭教育是父母在其子女的成长和发展中所实施的教育。在字典中家庭教育是这样被定义的:父母或者长辈在家庭中对孩子或青少年进行的教育。由于历史背景、经济状况、社会条件和传统文化不同,中美两国家庭教育的概念、目的、方法、内容都有很大的不同。本文将总结中美两国家庭教育文化的传统特征和差异,并分析其形成差异的原因。同时,作者将分析虎妈蔡美儿的家庭教育模式,并将其作为研究对象来探讨为何蔡美儿的教育模式在美国会获得成功。作者希望本文能够为中美家庭教育的改革提供有益借鉴。
