Abstract: Because of its unique characteristics, Netspeak has been a hotspot of sociolinguistics. But most of the studies are conducted on Netspeak with English as language materials. Under the guidance of the theoretical framework of the principles of conversational analysis, this paper tries to explore the gender differences of college students in Chinese Netspeak from four variables; they are the topic selection, the speech amount, the minimal responses and the turn-taking. According to this paper, both men and women prefer to talk about less serious issues; contrary to the situation in traditional face-to-face communication, this paper confirms that men produce a bit larger amount of speech than women in Netspeak and it is men who use more minimal responses; according to the average frequency of discontinuous expressions of each gender, there still exists the male domination in conversation, even in on-line conversation.
