Abstract:Drown is the first novel by Diaz, the Dominican American writer. It profoundly paints an authentic picture of the street lives of those Dominican immigrants. Through their language, behavior, and most importantly, their ways of thinking, we could get a glance of their living styles. Besides, the writer also reveals his own understanding of the “American dream” which is regarded as a panacea by millions of immigrants who are dying for escaping their poverty. The essay is dedicated to the digging out of the root of such kind of life through analyzing the authentic descriptions in the novel.

摘 要:《沉溺》是美国多米尼加裔作家Junot Diaz的第一本小说,描写了生活在美国社会底层的多米尼加移民的街头生活。作者通过对地道的街头语言、行为和思维模式的描写,向读者展现了多米尼加移民的真实生活。本文就作者对那些移民生活赤裸裸的描写进行分析,观察作者对“美国梦”的阐释,揭示了作者创作的真正意图,即来到美国并不意味着解决人生中的一切问题和摆脱贫困。
