Abstract:Wind from an Enemy Sky, the major novel of Native American fiction writer D’Arcy McNickle, depicts the cultural crash and rejection between native Americans and the whites. After the brief introduction and some critics’ comments, the fundamental reason of cultural conflicts is illustrated through the analysis of their widely different ways of communication and modes of thinking. In the novel, McNickle reveals the whites’ disdain toward the identity of native Americans and the assimilation toward their culture. In the conclusion, the realistic significance enlightens us, that is, nowadays people are willing to see the peace of the world and the mutual respect and understanding between different cultures rather than bloody violence and featureless assimilated culture.
