Abstract:In 1719, Daniel Defoe published the novel The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner. Defoe most famous and most successful work is regarded as the first realistic novel of the world literature. Therefore Defoe can be considered as the pioneer of the modern English novel (1998: 124-127). This view is justified in the fact that Defoe uses a realistic way of narrating and turns away from the tradition of the fantastic and romance-like way which was predominant so far.
Puritanism was played a decisive role in Britain in the 17th 18th century. Robinson is a special person. The spirit of Robinson fits the moral thought of Puritanism, and his behavior is deeply influenced and restricted by the moral thought of Puritanism. It is three aspects to show the author's ideas: the Concept of Labor, repentance and individualism.
Keywords: Robinson Crusoe, The Spirit of Puritanism, The Concept of Labor, Repentance, Individualism.
