Abstract:Toni Morrison was the first African-American who won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Her representative novel Beloved, which won Morrison Pulitzer Prize in 1988, was regarded as one of the milestones in the American black literature. Beloved was the fifth and also the most successful novel of Morrison, which was filled with the ecofeminist thoughts of the author and the ecofeminist embodied in the novel supplied a good recipe for the removal of racism and sexism, and for the elimination of the ecocrisis and spiritual crisis. This thesis aims to interpret the novel from the ecofeminist perspective, analyzing how nature, black women, and black men are victimized under the Western anthropocentric dualism and the mutual dependence between Blacks and Whites, so as to finally build a society, in which blacks and whites can exist harmoniously.
