Abstract: The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan (a famous Chinese-American woman writer)’s representative work. In the novel, she presents the story of four Chinese immigrant mothers and their daughters to the readers. Each of the mothers has their own world view based on their Chinese lives experiences. They wanted to share their experiences with their American daughters and try to build a bridge over culture difference and collision between them and their daughters by maternal expression. At first the daughters didn’t understand their mothers and the Chinese culture, but with the passing of time, the girls began to understand their mothers, sympathize with their mother's tragic past and eventually accept their mothers. In fact, it is the love mothers gave daughters that made daughters understand their mothers and the Chinese culture their mother represented. Therefore, the maternal love in The Joy Luck Club is not only the symbol of Chinese culture, but also the bridge of understanding and communication between mothers and daughters, more importantly the bridge of communication between Chinese and American culture.
