Abstract:Pragmatics is a relatively new field in linguistics. It deals with what certain words really mean in certain contexts. When using a language, it’s quite necessary to understand what the words really mean by a speaker so that the conversation will proceed successfully. This paper aims to analyze the use of J. R. Searle’s Speech Act Theory in the conversation-oriented text Friends explaining how Searle defined and classified language use and how the theory applies to practical use of language so as to help language users and English learners better understand what words really mean by the speaker in certain contexts to produce more harmonious and smoother conversations in daily life. In order to clearly explain Searle’s Speech Act Theory, the paper is devided into three parts, namely, a brief introduction to Searle’s speech act theory, application of direct speech act theory in Friends and application of indirect speech act theory in Friends.

摘要:语用学是语言学的一个较新的领域。它研究在特定情景中的特定话语,研究如何通过语境(context)来理解和使用语言。在语言的运用中,正确地理解说话人的说话意图是对话者使对话顺利进行的重要保证。本文重点在于对J. R. Searle的言语行为理论进行浅析,用含有大量英语对话的美国情景剧《六人行》为文本对J. R. Searle的言语行为理论进行分类,说明。该理论在实际对话中的运用有利于语言使用者及英语语言学习者更好地理解说话人意图,从而达到更和谐顺畅的交流效果。为清晰地说明塞尔言语行为理论及其在《六人行》中的实际运用,本论文分为三大部分,即,塞尔言语行为理论的简要介绍,直接言语行为理论及其在《六人行》中的运用,间接言语行为理论及其在《六人行》中的运用。
