Abstract:“Every language is part of a culture. As such, it cannot but serve and reflect culture needs.”(Hu Zhuanglin etc, 250). As an important part of language, idioms are fixed phrases with particular meanings. They are well-known and they play an increasingly important role in people’s daily life. Both oriental and Western people are accustomed to use idioms because they are concise, vivid and humorous. Idioms contain a lot of cultural information; reflect the differences in history, geography, religion, custom and thinking mode of different ethnic groups. This paper attempts to study how to deal with cultural when translating English idioms. The paper first sets out with the definition and the classification of idioms and the cultural characteristics of English idioms. Then it lists many specific examples to illustrate how to make use of the cultural knowledge while discussing the techniques of idioms translation. This paper is concluded with the idea that the cultural awareness can help achieve more accurate and lively translations.

摘要:每一种语言都是文化的一部分。因此,它不仅能服务于文化的需要,更能反映一种现实。作为语言的一个重要部分,习语是一种广为流传的具有特定含义的固定的短语,在人们的日常生活中起着越来越重要的作用。由于习语的文字通俗简练,风趣幽默,中西方人们都习惯于使用习语。它有着丰富的文化内涵,体现了不同民族在历史,地理,宗教信仰,风俗习惯和思维方式等方面的差异。这篇论文主要研究如何处理习语翻译时的文化影响。首先介绍的是习语和文化各自的定义。接着列举一系列具体的例子说明如何运用文化知识来翻译习语的技巧。最后得出文化意念能帮助实现更准确和生动的翻译方法。
