ABSTRACT:Learner autonomy is a very important part of lifelong learning. It also remains a hot issue in English teaching field both domestic and abroad. This thesis adopts narrative inquiry method. Taking in-depth interview and case study, the present study chooses two undergraduates of Honghe University (one is English major, the other is non-English major) and calculate to do a research in the development process of learner autonomy in English learning, the strategy of promoting learner autonomy and the status of learner autonomy. It is intended to have a fuller understanding of learner autonomy development and its influential factors through in-depth interviews and case study. This research reveals their entire English learning process from junior high school to university and explores those things which affected their English learning. Through cross-case analysis in such two dimensions as time and place, it can be concluded the development of participants’ learner autonomy and probed the factors which affect the cultivation of learner autonomy. The research data indicate self-efficacy, motivation and attitude are internal factors to affect English learner autonomy, and family, friend and teacher are external factors to affect English learner autonomy.

中文摘要:自主学习是终生学习中一个重要的组成部分, 也是国内外英语教学研究领域中的热点问题。本研究采用了叙事研究的方法,通过深度访谈和个案调查,对两位红河学院在校大学生(英语和非英语专业各一名)自主学习能力的发展过程、促进自主学习的策略及自主学习的现状做了一个调查,希望对其发展历程及影响因素有一个深刻的了解。研究展示了她们从初中到大学的英语学习经历,并对此过程中影响他们自身英语学习的事件进行剖析。通过时间和空间的二维对比,本研究总结出学习者自主学习发展的历程,探讨了影响英语学习者培养自主学习的因素。研究数据表明,自我效能感、动机和态度都是影响学习者自主学习能力的内部因素;家庭、朋友、教师则是影响学习者自主学习能力的外部因素。
