Abstract:In home-schooling, the practice in China and the United States is different,each of them has its own characteristics. In the United States, home-schooling has been implemented for a long period. In China, home-schooling started in the form of Si Shu(私塾)-- an old-style private school in ancient times. Lately home-schooling has been taken into concern in both countries. Study and research have been developed rapidly among educators, scholars and parents. The increasing practice of home-schooling offers rich experience for further improvement.
With increasing number of one-child families and the swift economic development, people are no longer satisfied with the traditional education mode. Many problems related to the educational reform have been emerging. Home schooling becomes a new choice for parents. So far there are pros and cons toward home-schooling. This paper mainly focuses on the study and the comparison of the practice of home-schooling between China and the United States by looking into the process and situation. In the comparison, hopefully, the paper can offer a practical prospective as needed, which might be usefully taken as reference to the primary level of education.
This paper begins with Chapter One-a brief introduction of significance and method of the research. Chapter Two is concerned with some theoretical issues, such as terms and concepts relevant to the home-schooling. Chapter Three is the comparison of the differences between Chinese and American home-schooling on the historical background, economic pattern aspects and emphasis on the causes of the differences. Chapter Four draws the conclusion and offers some suggestions on how to establish China’s practical approach in education.
