Abstract:As figures of speech, simile and metaphor possess aesthetic values to some extent and are closely linked with cultural tradition, thinking modes and aesthetic appreciation. Successful translation of simile and metaphor can not only convey or reshow the charm of simile and metaphor in source text, but also make it possible for two languages and cultures to co-exist harmoniously and bring benefits to each other. A translator should bear the responsibility to spread culture on the basis of being loyal to original work. However, there will be a long way to go for the interaction of two languages and cultures which are different from each other. When translating Six Chapters of A Floating Life (《浮生六记》), Lin Yutang adopted domestication and foreignization. There are also other specific translation methods involved. In this thesis, the author mainly discuses the translation strategies and methods employed by Lin Yutang when he translated the figurative expressions in Six Chapters of A Floating Life.
