Abstract:Early in the seventeenth century, women language has been researched. In the 1960s, feminist developed prosperity in Europe and the United States. Many famous scholars disappeared and many valuable works have been published. Such as Lakoff, Trudgill, Zimmerman. Women’s statuses have been improved with the help of these scholars.
Language and culture are interrelated; they are limited and influence each other. Gender difference as a phenomenon of social culture, expressed in language. In cross-gender communication, there are many differences, for example, intonation, when women express something; they are used to emphasizing some functional words to show their emotion. What’s more, pronunciation is also an aspect; linguists did an experience and found that female speakers like to use a higher proportion of prestige forms in their pronunciation than male speakers. By the way, style, topic, vocabulary are also different. In cross-gender language, gender culture difference leads to varieties on the rules of communication, the style of communication, the sense of value and these differences bring many difficulties to gender communication.
From thousands of years to now, men's economic positions at home are becoming increasingly important. Men control outside while women are inside” is deeply rooted in people's minds. At this time, gender difference has been formed.
Gender difference is like that men and women are playing the same game, but it has two totally different rules. Gender difference is a kind of culture difference; cross-gender communication is a kind of cross-culture communication. We should train our sensitive of culture difference, and respect the rule of communication, gender communication will be easy.
