Abstract:In the modern society, humanistic quality is becoming more and more important; the cultivation of humanistic quality is one of the important content of higher education. But the humanistic quality situation of college students is not optimistic. As a basic course for English majors, British and American literature course plays a very important role in cultivating students’ comprehensive qualities. This paper take English majors as an example to illustrate how to improve students’ huamanistic quality by taking British and American literature course. British and American literature course is the demand of all-round development education; it is capable of guiding students’ real life, enabling students to improve analytical ability and to have a better understanding of history. As for the concrete suggestion, the way of learner autonomy combined with teachers’ guidance was put forward. At the same time, it’s pointed out that it’s necessary to improve teachers’ own humanistic quality.
