Abstract:The study aims to make a comparison between Xu Yuanchong’s and Yang Xianyi’s translated version of “Chang Henge”, by the study on the English version of “Chang Henge” and on the basis of classical Chinese poetic culture, the conveying of the beauty in translating poems from Chinese into English as well as the basic standards of translating poems, the thesis makes a comparison between Xu Yuanchong’s translated version and that of Yang Xianyi and his wife’s in terms of translation styles and theories, conducts an analysis of these two different translated works of the long narrative poem wrote by Bai Juyi from the following three perspectives: the beauty in sound, the similarity in form and the accuracy in meaning, and finally comes to a conclusion that various images conveying different meanings could be created by different languages. The paper concludes that the Xu Yuancong’s translated version wins a slight edge over that of Yang Xianyi and his wife’s and it is really a precious translated version of the classical Chinese poetry.
