Abstract:To kill a Mockingbird, published in1960, is an autobiographical novel written by the famous American writer, Harper Lee. It was immediately successful, winning the Pulitzer Prize, and had been widely concerned by litterateurs. This thesis, based on the theme of racial discrimination, makes an analysis of the various factors affecting racism. Through in-depth understanding and learning of other scholars’ research on this book, its theme can be better understood. This paper illustrates three factors to analyze the influences on racialism: family education, individual morality, and social culture. The three aspects will be discussed to reflect the black’s agony in the United States, aimed to firm the sense of self-worth and awaken the black’s cultural consciousness. A more complicated understanding can be achieved about the author’s criticism of racial discrimination.
