Abstract:Functional equivalence theory is the core of Nida's translation theory, and is one of the earlier introduction of translation theories to China. Functional equivalence mainly consisted of three aspects: meaning, style and reader's response. This paper studied the True Story of Ah Q translated by Yang Hisen-yi and Glad-ys Yang in aspect of form, style and connotation to see how their translation has achieved functional equivalence. It was concluded that the Yangs’ translation of the work can achieve equivalence to the maximum degree.
Key words: functional equivalence theory; the True Story of Ah Q; Yang Hsien-yi and Glady Yang’s translation.
