Abstract:As a classic novel in modern American literature, The Catcher in the Rye makes Salinger become famous quickly. The study aims to analyze the mental crisis that the teenagers are facing through describing the confusion, rebellion and hesitation which the leading character experiences in the process of growing up. He is disgusted by the hypocrisy of the adult world and feels confused, but there is nowhere for him to escape. So he tries his best to build his own ideal world, only to find that it is impossible to achieve. And finally he has to return to the real society and be the kind of person he hates most. From exploring positively to watching helplessly, he achieves spiritual epiphany and great ideological transition in the process of seeking. The growth experience of the leading character has a deep enlightenment to the new generation of young people.
