Abstract:Lawrence was a British poet, novelist, one of the most famous writers in English literature in 20th century.Whether he is lived or died,Lawrence became the most controversial figure because of his bold description about sex and his insistent demand about the balance between the sexes.Lawrence's novel embody the Freud's psychoanalytic theory and he attempts to build an ideal society upon his ideological foundation of the harmony between men and women.The Lady Chatterley's Lover is Lawrence's last full-length novel.It's a beautiful novel which was written by the combination of naturalism and symbolism technique.it is also the end of the long exploration of gender relations in the case of Lawrence.The novel describes a story about love which blend of soul and body that occurs between the protagonist, Connie, and Ranger Meles.The novel possesses lots of detail, vivid description of sex that fits in Lawrence's view of sex from the perspective of life.In this novel,the matter of sex and Industry civilization, probes into the inner link of all healthy human nature, It is in a bare, detailed and progressive brush strokes. It shows the passion for vital salvation of the lost civilization of wasteland in 20th century,In the description which is completely full of the emotion and desire that places the anthor's deeper awareness of the blood and the strategy about the reform on sex.This article attempts from the perspective of theory on sex,According to the research of Lady Chatterley's Lover,expounding the embodiment sexual morality in Lawrence's novels.
The significance of this thesis lies in that Lawrence's sexual morality was a positive significance to the then Victorian morals.Even though in nowadays,the sexual morality of the harmony of soul and blood in the gender relationship which was submitted by Lawrence can give people the great and useful idea of enlightenment.
The thesis is composed of four chapters. Chapter one serves as the general introduction of the literary career and writing style of Lawrence, the plot and the historical background of the work.Chapter two is the literature review part, presenting various previous studies.
Chapter three is the main part, first giving a brief clarification of the relation between Lady Chatterley's Lover and Lawrence's another two novels, Sons and Lovers and The rainbow , which is the theoretical foundation of this thesis and summarizing Lawrence's sexual ethics. Beyond that,specifically explaining the separation of soul and blood and the harmony of soul and blood in the gender relationship in the novel, then, analysing the reasons for Chatterley having affair with Mellors. Chapter four summarizes the sexual ethics of Lawrence in Lady Chatterley's Lover and finally brings the thesis to a conclusion.
