Abstract
Reading in English learning is considered as an effective way to attain English knowledge and improve one’s English skills. English reading is not only an important language skill, but also a crucial learning skill, which is the basis or precondition for the development of other language skills. Reading teaching occupies an important place in English teaching. Thus, how to improve students’ English reading abilities is now a problem need to be addressed urgently in reading teaching. Besides, applying what method in English reading teaching is related to the quality of teaching. However, the traditional model, which lays the emphasis on knowledge transmission without developing students' practical English ability, is gradually proved to lower the efficiency of reading teaching. So, the research of the application of schema theory in reading class of junior high school has its practical significance.
This essay adopts literature research method, experimental method and questionnaire method, focusing on the study of the application of schema theory in reading class of junior high school. According to the New English Curriculum Standards and the current English reading teaching in junior high school, an experiment based on reading models and schema theory as well as their implications on reading teaching was made in reading class of junior high school, with the guidance of schema theory. The questionnaires make it possible to understand and analyze that whether the reading class under the schema theory is appropriate and efficient. The result of the research indicates that the application of schema theory in teaching English reading can greatly promote students’ English learning.
