Abstract
Chant is an important teaching material in the vocabulary teaching. However, nowadays, in the regular English vocabulary class, teachers in primary schools often ignore the importance of chant, and pay too much attention to imparting meaning and usage of the words rather than helping students effectively remember new words.
In order to establish a unitary mode to convey vocabulary knowledge and test the feasibility of chant teaching, two experiments and a questionnaire survey on the effects of chant in teaching among 92 primary school students are carried out. The thesis came to a conclusion that it is quite effective to apply English chant as an aid in vocabulary teaching. It inspires students’ learning interest and inner motivation. English chant serves as effective language input, trains students’ pronunciation and creates a relaxing atmosphere in class.
Based on the research, English teachers are adviced to keep pace with the times and make full use of chant to run through the vocabulary teaching process so as to improve teaching efficiency and thus to help students to develop all-round as well.
