Abstract
The arrival of the information age and the increasing frequency of international communication have made English an important place in international language. The development of society requires the improvement of citizens' comprehensive English language ability. In the human language communication, listening is one of the most important and basic communicative skills, and it is the basis for the development of other language skills. In English teaching, listening is the foundation and key of students’ English learning. The quality of listening teaching directly affects the reception of students' language knowledge. National English Curriculum Standard has advocated task-based teaching model, rather than the traditional teaching method. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the task-based teaching method with the traditional teaching method. In this study, by comparing the two teaching methods, answer the following questions: what are the teaching effects of these two teaching methods? How do students respond to these two teaching methods? What are the advantages of task-based teaching method compared with traditional teaching method? In this study, a comparative study was carried out in an experimental class and a controlled class. The subjects were 70 students in a junior middle school in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The experimental class was taught by the task-based teaching method, while the control class was taught in the traditional teaching mode. The subjects were tested before and after the experiment. And, the author designed a questionnaire. The questionnaire is about English classroom. The results show that the use of task-based teaching method can improve students' classroom participation, while the traditional teaching method students are more passive acceptance of knowledge. Students have a good acceptance of task-based teaching method, and classroom teaching is also relatively smooth.
