Abstract
"A Rose for Emily" is a novel of the famous writer William Faulkner, which tells the minds of a woman Emily who had detainment for the southern plantation society and chase for metamorphotic marriage. The world she imaged and lived in was totally different. She was depressed and confused in her old world and generated an extermely self protection consciousness, even killed her husband. The novel is of distinctive style of Gothic, truly reflecting the American females through her life at that time, emphatically describing the different impact on Emily because of retrieving to the Gothic, truly revealing the tragic fact of the fanatical retrieving of the Gothic and retrieving of the people in the 1860s, profoundly revealing and showing the shock change on new system due to the conflict of southern and northern culture at that time.
