Abstract
As is known to all, English has become the compulsory course since 2001 when it has been increasingly highlighted by the whole society. However, the traditional ways of teaching has led to the decreasing of interests in English learning as time moves on, which has aroused a great amount of attention from experts and teachers. The declining of grades and absentmindedness in class should be to blame for the dull and gloomy teaching methods, which have turned the interesting and charming English lessons into boring and dried item. It is reported that applying games to teaching can not only inspire students’ interests in learning, but also enhance their physiological and psychological development. According to the New English Curriculum, more attention should be paid to students’ overall development rather than merely focusing on the skills of memorization of vocabulary and sentence patterns. Thus, using games in teaching English will make progress for both teachers and students in teaching knowledge and acquiring it. This thesis is aimed to analyze the application of games to primary English teaching in the respect of letters, vocabulary, sentences, dialogues and discourses.
