Abstract
Araby, a classic short story by James Joyce, published in Dubliners, a collection of fifteen short stories. In the novel, with a casual and delicate stroke, the author depicts a poetic story. In this story, the traditional love did not happen. There is no distinct dramatic conflict between the characters, replaced by a boy's fantasy, from the loneliness to the melancholy and then frenzy. In the depressed and paralytic environment, with the fine incessant needles of rain, the boy's love in his heart weaving a dream filled with ambition and passion and gifting him an invincible power.
The boy is absolutely ignorant of Araby, but he feels as if he had been summoned to join the holy war. He goes to the dreamy Araby which full of Eastern enchantment and treats this trip as a pilgrimage. However, after arriving at Araby, he watched a vulgar dialogue between a woman and a man. The boy's love is instantly crushed and the dream is shattered.
