Abstract
Reading is a very important part of English learning. It can help students understand society, perceive life and cultivate emotions too. Therefore, it is important to train and cultivate students’ reading comprehension ability. This thesis combines the background, purpose and importance of the research. It mainly introduces how to improve the students’ reading comprehension ability from three aspects, including cultivating the reading interest, increasing the reading quantity and improving the reading comprehension level. Interest is the best teacher. If the students are not interested in reading, then the reading task can not be carried out. Yet interest is also influenced by many factors, so teachers should create a good learning environment for students and choose the appropriate books to stimulate their interest in reading. On the basis of cultivating reading interest, teachers should ensure that students have a certain amount of reading in the classroom every day, meanwhile, create after-class reading opportunities for students as many as possible, and gradually increase the difficulty of reading materials. Otherwise, it is nonsense to improve reading ability. Finally, to improve the level of reading comprehension is the key to improve reading ability. The students’ reading comprehension is usually affected by three aspects. Lacking the basic grammar knowledge, the background knowledge, and some necessary reading skills. Therefore, teachers should proceed from these three aspects to improve students’ reading comprehension ability and then to improve their reading ability.
