Abstract
With the rapid development of society, English has become one of the compulsory courses in primary school. However, the current English teaching in primary schools is still in the stage of research and exploration and there still some problems need to be strengthened and improved. As we all know, “Interest is the best teacher for students to master the language.” But the traditional English teaching method mostly focuses on English forms and ignores the communicative function of English in reality, so students may lose their interests in English. Therefore, what method can attract students’ interest in learning English?
English teaching in primary schools should be an effective interaction between teachers and students, which should be carried out through scientific and reasonable activities. Practice has proved that the game teaching method is one of the most effective teaching approaches. If the educational game is designed reasonably, it will help to complete the teaching task and achieve the teaching goal. The emergence of educational game not only injects fresh vitality into classroom teaching but also provides new means of teaching. Vivid and lively games are suitable for the development of pupils’ physiological and psychological characteristics. This method will make students participate in English learning actively so that they can experience the pleasure of learning and acquire the sense of success.
My dissertation can be divided into seven parts. The first part is the introduction. It tells about the purpose of writing this dissertation. The second part is the overview of games. It introduces the definition and the classification of games. Part three is the literature review, which introduces the research status of game teaching at home and abroad. The fourth part sets out the theoretical framework. It focuses on some learning theories such as behaviorist learning theory and constructivism learning theory. On Part five, I set forth the application of games in English teaching. Then, I expound the advantages and disadvantages of games on part six. Finally, it is my conclusion of this dissertation. It summarizes the dissertation briefly and focuses on the importance of games in English Teaching.
