Abstract
Mark Twain is the founder of the American critical realism literature. One of his famous works, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, was often called the “great American Novel”. This novel depicts the protagonist Huckleberry and a slave Jim escape from the civilized world to pursue freedom. The object of this paper is to check the problem of the characters’ different pursuit of the freedom and different attitudes to freedom in the Adventures of the Huckleberry Finn. The way I adopt to solve the problem is looking for information on my subject by other scholars and analyzing the conclusions of previous scholars’ papers. The results obtained in this research include the different pursuit of freedom between Huckleberry and Jim, the symbols of freedom, and the whites’ attitudes to slaves’ freedom. The impacts of our obtained results show that anyone has right to enjoy their own freedom. No matter young or old, whites or blacks, masters or slaves.
Key words: freedom, pursuit, Huck
