Abstract
Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind is her only novel in her life, but with just one novel she is no doubt one of the greatest women writer in the world. Mixed with love, war and feminism, Gone with the Wind is successful and irreplaceable. This piece of dissertation mainly studies about the protagonist Scarlett O’Hara’s characteristics, a vivid female image who is smart, brave, strong-minded and independent, and yet she is also rebellious, vain, selfish and realistic. Scarlett is an unusual woman, she is not perfect but she is admired widely, she is the new woman of the old time.
