Abstract
English textbook is an important material and means to achieve the goal of English curriculum. Therein, vocabulary is the basic element of a language, and it is also one of the important parts of the basic knowledge of English. The reasonable arrangement of vocabulary directly influences the implementation of the new curriculum and the improvement of teaching quality. Therefore, the analysis and evaluation of the vocabulary are of the essence.
Based on literature research and questionnaire investigation method, the author firstly reviewed the definition of vocabulary, teaching design, teaching content and related literature. Then, according to the external survey of vocabulary choice for Oxford English for primary schools from teachers and students, the results of the survey will be analyzed from external evaluation(teachers’ and students’ assessment) to judge whether the English vocabulary choice accord with the quantity and type of scientific standard. Finally, the author puts forward some relevant suggestions for the rational use of the teaching material on the basis of research analysis.
Through the research and analysis, the author finds that teachers and students are basically satisfied with the vocabulary design. The content of this textbook is close to students’ real life and meets their physical and psychological characteristics. It not only attaches great importance to students’ original cognitive structure, but embodies the ideology of vocabulary learning theory. This set of textbooks also meets the English curriculum standards. Whereas there are still some places needing to be improved. For example, the repetition rate of vocabulary has not been taken seriously.
