Abstract
With the acceleration of economic globalization, the economic ties between the countries of the world become stronger and the competition is intensifying. Since the economic situation is changing rapidly, it is fairly important to know the world economy in a timely and accurate manner. As an important medium for understanding the situation of the world economy, English financial coverage has important influence on the economic and social development of our country. Therefore, it is very practical to study the Chinese translation of English financial reports. Financial news is a type of functional text with the clear target, and the main purpose of the translation is to provide financial information for Chinese readers.
This study aims to analyze the linguistic features of English financial coverage in terms of vocabulary, sentence and text, and puts forward the translation strategy from the perspective of skopos theory. Through collecting first-hand news from China Daily, the author strives to explore the translation strategies and methods under the guidance of rules based on the skopos theory, finally concludes that English financial news translation requires not only to convey information accurately and objectively, but also to consider the readers’ cultural background. Through analysis of self-built corpus, guided by the skopos theory, this study is designed to investigate the treatment of information and culture in functional text translation, in order to deepen the financial news research, at the same time hope to provide some references for foreign learners and practitioners in financial coverage translation.
