Abstract: Traditional translator often evaluates a translation from the use of translation techniques, methods, translation standards and so on. Translator, as the main subject of the translation, has always been ignored and in the dilemma of “loyalty or betrayal”. Such situation did not change until the emergence of “cultural turn” in 1970s. From then on, more and more attention has been paid to the study of translator’s subjectivity. This paper tries to compare the original text of The Republic of Wine and its English version to study the manifestation of translator’s subjectivity in Goldblatt’s choice of translation strategies.
