Abstract: Uncle Tom’s Cabin written by Mrs Stowe depicted the miserable life of slaves and deeply revealed the brutality. By analyzing and comparing the two female slaves, Uncle Tom and George, this paper explores the writer’s purpose of revealing the brutality of slaves, calling for sympathy of readers’, criticizing slavery and appeal of the urgent need to abolish the slavery.
