Abstract: The Scarlet Letter as Nathaniel Hawthorne's representative work; it not only has the characteristics of American romantic novels, but also has a strong religious background. This essay mainly focuses on the analysis of the relationship between a classic novel Scarlet Letter and fall and redemption deriving from the Bible, especially I discuss how the fall and redemption have shown on the main characters. As the most influential novel of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Scarlet Letter is very special in the 19th century in term of the attitude towards the Puritanism. The analysis of fall and redemption in the Scarlet Letter makes us know more about the attitude of Hawthorne in the 19th century towards the fall and redemption under the dual influence of Puritanism and romanticism. Also, he inherited the thoughts of the Bible.
