Abstract
This is a study of the middle school English teachers’ teaching language at class in the Chengdu 17th senior high school. The author has collected the data of English teachers’ teaching language, which include 2 new teachers and 2 experienced teachers who have years of teaching experience in the senior high school. The author adopts classroom recording, interview, questionnaire and observation. The study finds that in a real English classroom teaching, teachers' teaching language has a variety of problems. Especially the teaching language of some new teachers is not standard because it is full of too many grammatical errors, which makes the class extremely monotonous. This will do harm to the students’ learning interest, and also may have a very adverse impact on students’ English learning in the future.
The study finds the cause of the problem: namely, the teacher does not pay much attention to teaching language. Then, the teacher is not professional enough. And the author proposes some possible solutions: the author encourages teachers to learn and to practice some standard teaching language. Teachers should learn some simple, humorous and flexible teaching language first and then practice it in class. During the process of using teaching language, teachers should try to use “positive language” instead of “negative language”, which can help the teacher to create a better learning environment for students.
The study can be divided into 4 chapters. The first chapter is the introduction and it contains the background of the study, the purpose of the study and the structure of the study. The second chapter is the body part, and in this chapter, the author states the literature review which includes the definition and the function of the teaching language, the previous study and the theoretical background about teaching language. The last but not least, the author elaborate the research design in the third chapter, the author come up with the research question and the participant, point out the problems and put forward the solutions accordingly. The last part is the conclusion and limitations of the study.
