Abstract
Language is the carrier of culture. And the cultural information that is carried in language is exactly what students are going to acquire in English Language Teaching. Therefore, in an English lesson, the object is not only to improve language level, but also to focus on the development of the intercultural communication of students. However, in the background of globalization, although intercultural communication is indispensable, many teachers have not built the notion of cultivating the intercultural communication of students. So what could a teacher do to cultivate students’ intercultural communication competence? What are the deficiencies in current English teaching lessons? What obstacles and difficulties are the development of intercultural communication going through as a newborn thing in ELT? This thesis is based on the researches of predecessors. Literature research method and qualitative research method are adopted to answer the following three questions: First, whether teachers have the consciousness on developing the intercultural communication of senior high students and the performances; Second, what are teacher’s behaviors on developing the intercultural communication of senior high students; Third, what problems or difficulty do teachers in senior high schools have on developing the intercultural communication and what are the feasible solutions? The research indicates that many teachers in senior high school have tried many teaching strategies and approaches to inspire students’ interests therefore make the atmosphere exciting such as extensive reading ,intensive reading and abundant extra-curriculum activities, which make it easier to achieve the objects.
