Abstract
“Anne Series” are the famous novels written by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery, especially the first one Anne of Green Gables that is acclaimed by lots of critics. By adopting the intertextuality theory this thesis aims to discuss the intertextual relationship with its sequence Anne of Avonlea from three aspects. First, the plots of this two novels, the theory foundation and the current investigation are introduced. Second, discussion is about the intertextual mode presented in this two sequence, including the lexical, textual and contextual levels. Third, this part analyzes the writing style of Montgomery and comparing this two books in the aspects of narrative perspectives, the ways of expression and the figures of speech. And in the last part comes the summary of the whole analysis and concludes that the intertextual connections between this two sequence enlighten the readers to understand and appreciate Montgomery’s works in a new way.
