Abstract
With the deepening of the globalization process, a large number of sojourners enter into China for the reason of work or learning, and how to adapt to the new cultural environment has become their primary problem. Shanghai Calling (2012) is a film describing that Sam, an ambitious New York attorney, after being sent to Shanghai on an assignment, experienced Chinese culture and society. Eventually, he managed to adapt to the Chinese culture. He changed himself from being eager to go back to New York to setting up his own law office in Shanghai. In this thesis, the author uses intercultural adaptation theory such as cultural shock and U-shaped curve theory to analyze this intercultural experience, summarizes factors affecting cross-cultural adaptation, and puts forward some suggestions for sojourners to adapt to a new cultural environment.
