ABSTRACT
The advent and popularity of the network offers the people worldwide much easier and more convenient access to foreign audiovisual productions, whilst the fast development of the cyber technology and the social changes it leads to has also brought many new changes to the field of audiovisual translation. Under the guidance of the rewriting theory and the Skopos theory, this thesis aims to find out the new changes in movie and TV subtitle translation in the cyber era after collecting and analyzing abundant examples from different perspectives. The research has found that new changes have taken place in the translators, the audiences, the functions of subtitles and translation methods. The translators are becoming more and more amateur and the audience is becoming more active in participating in the audiovisual translation. And rather than just providing information, the functions of the subtitle have been widely extended. Last but not least, the translation methods are becoming diversified and entertaining. A study of these new changes is intended to be of value to the development of audiovisual translation in the time of new media.
