Abstract: Idioms are set phrases and short sentences, which have been concluded through a long time in human history. They are generally from ancient classics, famous works, history stories, folk legend, etc. They usually possess vivid description and strong national colorful characteristics. First, this paper will analyze the cultural differences that are reflected in idioms translation from several aspects, including nation’s geographical environment, historical background, economic life, customs, religion, mental status, values and so on. Also, this paper will provide practical translation strategies of different forms of idioms that can reflect Sino-western cultural diversities. Then the paper will introduce some approaches, which may be helpful in the translation of idioms.
