Abstract: The Joy Luck Club is the first long fiction of Amy Tan, a famous Chinese American woman writer. The cross-culture elements and rich fictional dialogues in the novel make it a good sample for researchers and language learners to study. The thesis aims to analyze the conversational implicature in The Joy Luck Club and discuss the translation of the dialogues in The Joy Luck Club translated by Cheng Nai’shan, He Pei’hua and Yan Ying’wei. The fictional dialogues play vital roles in each fiction. They not only express the character's inner life, but also show the character's personality, upbringing and social status, etc With the continuous development of pragmatics, there is a new point of view for us to research the translation studies. The thesis focuses on the impact of translation strategies based on the conversational implicature theory, and summarizes effective translation strategies and methods to maximize the charm and cultural information of the source language for the readers to understand and appreciate the foreign fictions better.
