Abstract: Chinese culture-loaded words have their specific culture connotations, and it is hard to find equivalents for them in English. This paper attempts to study the translation of Chinese culture-loaded words under Skopostheory in the documentary—The Story of China, analyze the complexity, vacancy and non-equivalence of Chinese culture-loaded words in the English environment, and point out the factors influencing the selection of translation strategies. Translators should have a good command of the environment, culture, background and language of both initiators and target receivers, based on which the specific translation methods are adopted, namely, omission, free translation, literal translation and loan translation.
