Abstract: The thesis mainly analyzes the growth of “I” in Daphne du Maurier’s masterpiece Rebecca from the perspective of feminism. In the novel, “I” grows up rapidly into an independent woman from a timid dependency in patriarchal society after collision, struggle, and resistance. During the process “I” acquires speech right, obtains equality of sexual relations in marriage, and accomplishes the salvation of her husband and herself. It points out that the growth process of “I” is the process of exploring and reestablishing self-identity, which reflects the awakening of female consciousness.
