Abstract:Under the background of globalization, as China’s economy develops and that China’s opening to the outside world deepens, people in China have more and more interests in learning English. The students in primary schools all over the country start to learn English, and as a unique English learning group, students in primary schools have their own characteristics. It’s known that English teaching in primary schools is necessary. While, there are also certain issues with it. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the necessity of the English teaching in the primary schools and find out the problems of primary schools’ English teaching, and put forward the solution. Eventually we can help pupils learn English well and make a solid foundation for the future English learning. In this research, the first part introduces the background of the topic, and the second part illustrates the domestic and foreign research on primary schools’ English teaching. The third part introduces the critical period hypothesis. The fourth part points out the problems of primary schools’ English teaching and puts forward the suggestion to solve these problems from the aspects of teaching material, teaching method and learning motivation. The fifth part is a full summary to the whole text.
