Abstract:Based on functional equivalence theory, this thesis analyzes and revises the mistranslation in the film Thor from the aspect of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and cultural equivalence. The author concludes the strategies and methods of subtitle translation. At the lexical level, the thesis uses free translation to achieve the equivalence between subtitle translation and film content. At the syntactic level, the author transforms the sentence pattern to give expression to the psychology and personality of characters in the film. At the cultural level, this thesis uses domestication to help the target audience to understand the film content and obtain the same response as the source language audience. The author hopes that this study will attract more translators’ attention to subtitle translation to improve and standardize movie subtitle translation system.
