Abstract:Due to the differences of ecological environments, religious beliefs, traditional customs, living habits, values and aesthetic tastes, cultural differences are gradually formed among different countries. These factors lead to the emergence of a large number of culture-loaded words and bring great difficulties to the translators. However, culture-loaded words play a very important role in the heritage of culture. Therefore, adopting proper translation strategies to handle such culture-loaded words and expressions is helpful to cross-cultural communication.
Moment in Peking was Lin Yutang’s first English novel, which was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature. The novel contains a large number of culture-loaded words which have Chinese cultural factors. Therefore, this paper analyzes the translation strategies which are applied to the translation of culture-loaded words in Moment in Peking, from the perspective of Adaptation Theory. This paper tries to study the translation strategies for different culture-loaded words by means of analyzing the translation of culture-loaded words in Moment in Peking in order to achieve a better translation.

中文摘要:因为生活环境、宗教信仰、传统习俗、生活方式、价值观念和审美情趣的不同,各国之间形成了文化差异。这些因素导致了大量文化负载词的产生,给翻译工作带来了相当大的困难。但是,文化负载词在文化传承中的作用至关重要,采用正确、合理的方法翻译文化负载词,将有助于跨文化交流。
《京华烟云》是林语堂的第一部英文小说,曾获得过诺贝尔文学奖的提名。这部小说无论是取材、人物的刻画、还是故事情节的发展,都是以中国文化为背景,含有大量的文化负载词。因此,本文将以《京华烟云》中出现的文化负载词为研究对象,从顺应论视角进行分析研究。通过分析《京华烟云》中文化负载词的翻译,研究处理不同文化负载词的翻译策略,以达到翻译的最佳效果。
