[Abstract]: After the death of Emma, British poet Thomas Hardy ,with great grief and regret, wrote a plenty of memorial poems to cherish the memory of their beautiful days. These poems are very unique , for the number of memorial poems in Britain is few, especially compared with China, which has a long history of laments. With the analysis of these poems, we can know better about Hardy——his choice for different images; his pursuit of rhythm and style; his simple language with deep feeling and his reflection of life and destiny.
