Abstract: Call to Arms is a masterpiece of Lu Xun, containing rich Chinese culture. The study on Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang’s translation of Call to Arms will be beneficial for the understanding and the translation of the culture-loaded words. This paper, based on Venuti’s theory of the domestication and foreignization strategies and the collection of statistics and examples, analyzed the strategies and methods applied in Yang and Dai’s translation of the culture-loaded words in Call to Arms. The results shows that the domestication strategy was used more frequently than foreignization strategy in Yang and Dai’s translation of Call to Arms. Supported by the analysis of translation methods used in the specific instances, the author believe that the strategies of domestication and foreignization can both be adopted in the translation process, as long as they can retain the potential meaning of these cultural words at length.
